Born and raised in Mount Vernon, Ohio, Craig graduated from Ohio State University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He then lived in Montreal, Canada until moving to Minneapolis in 1976.

Craig made his first career in corporate data processing management, running the big computers in manufacturing firms.

In 1996, looking for a new direction, Craig's pastor suggested he look into church administration. After taking courses in the field at the University of Saint Thomas, Craig started with Saint Matthew Lutheran Church in Columbia Heights and worked there for 3 years prior to coming to University Lutheran Church of Hope in early 2000.

Craig is also active in the North Central Chapter of NACBA, the National Association of Church Business Administration. At the 2003 NACBA national conference in Florida, Craig was recognized as an FCBA, Fellow in Church Business Administration.

On July 28, 2006, Craig was presented with the F. Marvin Myers Service Award for 2006. This national honor is awarded to individuals displaying a strong commitment to their professional organization, the National Association of Church Business Administration (NACBA), through chapter leadership, special service, chapter organization, national service of membership, and professional support. Specifically, Craig was honored for his work publishing the Friday Epistle, a weekly e-mail newsletter designed to keep church administration people connected, promoting the sharing of information.

Craig is a Notary Public and is happy to notarize documents for anyone at no charge.

Craig and his companion, Sydney, enjoy classical music and travel in their spare time. Craig has one son, David, who lives in Minneapolis.
