Worship at University Lutheran Church of Hope follows the historical liturgical format while incorporating new melodies and hymnodies of today. The sanctuary offers a meditative experience with the beamed ceilings and the music of the Holtkamp pipe organ. Worship leadership involves people of all ages in a variety of roles. University students join the members who have worshiped here since baptism to create a vibrant and diverse congregation.
When you come to worship, anticipate God’s spirit at work within you and around you. Pray for the pastors, the lectors, the acolytes, the musicians, the ushers and all who lead the worship that day. Pray for those around you in the pew. Come open to the Holy Spirit’s surprises. Come intent on hearing or seeing the Word of God. Pray for yourself as you come.
First we GATHER remembering our baptism, confessing our need for God, and drawing together under the cross. Then we know the WORD as it is read, preached, confessed and prayed following the series of scripture readings from the Revised Common Lectionary. Each Sunday at both services we share in the MEAL where Christ is host and all the baptized who believe that Christ is present in the bread and wine are welcome to come to the table. Having been nurtured through the WORD and the MEAL, we are SENT out into the world again, following the cross of Christ, with the commissioning: “Go in Peace, Serve the Lord”, and the people proclaim, “Thanks be to God!”
Throughout the service, the instrumental and vocal music enhances the proclamation and becomes proclamation of the transcendent and immanence of our God. Our hymnody is selected with an appreciation for the familiar hymns from the past and for the diversity of hymns that introduce us to new metaphors for The Holy. The organ postlude puts the exclamation mark into the SENDING proclamation!
The Worship Team's 2008 Annual Report is available here.
All are welcome in this place.
The position of Worship Team Leader is Lisa Morse, who can be reached at Worship@ulch.org
